Computer Repair Scam
2 Answers
Yesterday I received a call from a company claiming to be trying to fix a problem I have with my computer. They said that I'd made an online request for help. Stupidly the first thing they asked was whether I had a computer!!
I've only recently bought a brand new Dell laptop, so I know I have no problems at present. They wanted my to log onto a particular website and give them remote access to my machine. I assume they would then proceed to copy the contents of my hard drive and install a worm/trojan.
They appear to be calling everyone in the phone book in my area at present, as my gran also received a call, and tried to give them the access they required, but failed due to a lack of online knowledge.
They are calling from Calcutta, and it's almost impossible to understand a word they are saying. If you receive a call from 052573182 do not fall for it, as you will truly regret it!
