PCOS and low GI diet
10 Answers
I suffer from PCOS (policystic ovaries) and now that I have paid zillions for laser hair removal I am trying to get all the excess weight to fall off too.
I was up to 22 stone and am now down to 19, I am using the low GI diet.
I have also been diagnosed with manic depression/ bipolar disorder, and had to give up working because of this. However PCOS also causes mood swings so there is extra complications there.
Is there anyone out there who has PCOS and trying to lose weight the "GI way"? I also take chronium, agnus castus and metformin.
Everything seems so complicated, all my symptoms overlap and I get a tad frustrated by it all. Susan

it could be worth trying a few different brands ot see if any affect you in the same way - you never know

joko - I am 42 with high blood pressure. I came off Dianette a couple of years ago. I started taking the agnus castus and I have a period/deluge every couple of months or so.
My main problem is the mood swings. I think that my blood sugar levels are the cause of the regular mood problems. They are very frightening and debilitating.
Have you ever been referred to an edocrinologist (not too sure of the spelling there)? Last time I went to the hospital I saw a gynaecologist who was only concerned about my ovaries/fertility and nothing else. I am single, am allergic to children (unless covered in fur and have four legs) and am not concerned about my fertility in the least. Men!

Just to let you know also, that my husband was diagnosed as pre diabetic (a few months away from developing diabetes) and has dropped 1 st 9lbs in 5 weeks. We have both been following the G.I. diet (myself for ease and health) and it is very easy and straightforward to do. It is also plentiful and very good for staving off daytime between meal hunger.
It has the added bonus of being very good for the bowels!

I have PCOS but have been very lucky with symptoms. I had bleeding between periods before my first child and they were very irregular but amazingly having 2 children cured any related fertility problems and kick started my body into ovulating regularly. The weight I put on with my children had been nigh on impossible to shift. I ate chicken or tuna salad every night and tinned tomatoes on wholemeal bread for lunch. Oh and lovely fruit and yoghurt for breakfast. I excercised like mad too.
I am going a bit bananas on the diet front as am going stateside soon.
I am sure you are aware that you are probably insulin resistant, so you really need to just keep moving it is the only advice I could give. I really feel for you and realise how lucky I have been.
