Just as a point of pedantry, points are not put onto a licence. They are recorded against a driver's driving record. You do not have to hold a licence to have points imposed.
The sanction for driving whilst disqualified is either an extension to the disqualification period or six points. The disqualification period obviously could not be extended. The reason why the points were imposed is because there is a possibility that the driver will apply successfully to have his ban lifted. If he does he will have the six points as a sanction for this latest offence.
I must say lifetime bans are extremely rare. In more than twenty years taking an interest in these things and seeing many drivers sentenced I have never seen one imposed. In fact I think I can count on one hand then number of bans longer than five years that I have seen imposed. Drivers disqualified for ten years or more can apply to have their ban lifted after five years.
