Oh dear - I've got a horrible feeling that absolutely nothing will remove it.
Some time ago I splashed some brown hair dye onto one of our light colour kitchen cabinets. I have tried just about everything in my range of cleaners, without success, to remove it.
Probably the only thing you can do is talk to your insurance company. Is the stain large enough or is such a visible place that the insurance company would be prepared to replace the carpet?
On the 1001 carpet site, it says to use 1 tablespoon of borax to 1 pint of warm water. Wear rubber gloves and try on an inconspicuous piece first. Borax will be in a chemists shop.
Have just come across a magazine "Essentials by Post" which is selling "White Wizard" stain remover which claims not to bleach but to remove grease, coffee, ink lipstick, chocolate, ketchup, berries, shoe polish, blood, rust, etc and even to work on old stains. It costs 4.99 for a tub Reference M.2468 on page 26 of the catalogue. Order via website www.essentialsbypost.com, Tel: 08701-266611 or fax 08701-203098. Worth a try?
The commentary on this item states: "Our warehouse manager spilt a tub of barbecue sauce on her new carpet. Norting worked to remove the stain. The first application of White Wizard reduced the stain by about 95% leaving a slight trace but after a second go with White Wizard it was impossible to see where the stain had been."
