Site Rules Query

Earlier today a moderator posted:

'...I can ban him, but not just for saying what he chooses to believe...'

'...he can't be banned just for saying what he chooses to believe. If you don't like it don't read it.'

Are we to understand that if we state that what we post is what we believe, no matter whether those beliefs are homophobic, sexist, racist or anyother-ist that is against the Site Rules, that such posts should be allowed to stand/that the contributor should face no sanction?

TIA

>>> The problem is that unless folk report posts that break the rules when they see them, if a Mod's not seen it either, it will stay

Obviously true, TCL, but it's worth pointing out that mods don't get to see 'reports'. Only the editorial team do, which mean that (for example) reports submitted over the weekend might not get seen until Monday. Further, the Eds only keep an eye on this site as a sideline to their many other tasks working in digital marketing. So checking on reports might not always be among their first priorities.
>>> And moderators can't read through every post surely

Yup! I generally only read posts on threads which I'm contributing to or I've clicked on it the hope of finding something there which will interest me.

That's a thing that could do with addressing buenchico. Theoretically someone could post something on a Friday at 18:00 that might get the site taken off the server, and it could sit there until Monday morning. Extreme example but...yanno.

What is a report?
i agree chris, though i do see some of these posts and wonder why they are aren't taken down.
When you report a thread or a comment you have to select a reason and you can give details.

I take it that the report finds its way to the EDs to review and delete or no.

i thought that mods ids weren't known about.
It's what happens when you click that little button marked 'Report' next to every post, Sqad!

That will take you to a screen like this one

except that only mods have the 'Remove from site' option available to them.
Buenchico......thanks but I am still confused.

Before a Mor can remove a post, must it goto the Ed via a " report " first OR can the Mod remove a post without further sanction?
As I stated above, Sqad, mods don't get to see reports (even after they've gone to the Ed), so we're not going to remove a post (or take any other action) based upon reports submitted by others.

However, if I click on the 'Report' button next to a post, I can short-circuit the process by putting a tick next to 'Remove from site' before submitting my report. That will zap that particular post but the Ed will still see my report (thus receiving an explanation for my action).
Buenchico...got it.
So a Mod can delete a post on his/her own volition.

I can't remember what this thread was all about now lol
