Weekend Away
5 Answers
I am trying to arrange a weekend away for myself and a few friends - we are looking to go away for a long weekend in October time and i need to decided where to go and then look into booking somewhere to stay but i haven't got a clue!! We were thinking of either Devon or the Lakes - any advice? Also, anyone know of any good places to book cottages? We are based in London...

I would certainly recommend the Lakes, it is a stunning region. Or for somewhere a little closer to home, the Cotswolds are equally beautiful
Try this site, we booked our cottage in the Cotswolds through them, the accomodation was well represented, clean and large.

This is a really good site I've used a lot in the past:-

You book direct with the owner of the cottage and I've never had a problem with any of the cottages I've booked. Great prices as well ! You can buy their magazine (WHSmith usually sell it, about 4) if you prefer not to do it "on-line".

Devon really is a beautiful place and I don't think its that bad to get to from London either. South Devon would be the closest to London and Torquay is the English Riviera, so thats a good place to look at. It is quite lively but can be peaceful too if you are on the outskirts. If you fancied North Devon which is on the West coast that is nice too, but if you wanted to see and do things you would have further to travel to different places.
I stayed here with friends a few years back via cottages4you - it was fantastic.
