Firstly it was 1 channel that failed, then it was all if not most. Up till now everything was fine. Contacted Sky. Was having difficulty understanding Asian chap “ it’s an old box, we need to upgrade you to Sky Q “ Is it ruse by Sky to get me to upgrade. Remotely effecting channels. “ We can upgrade you to multi room at no extra “ ??? “It will only cost you £2 extra a month. You can keep your same package “ I kept asking a few times, at least 4. So it will only cost me £2 extra a month. “ Yes only £2 extra a month, an 18 month contract “. No mention if I had to pay for a new Sky Q box, which I’ve heard some people have had to pay for. I’ve been thinking, do I need multi room? Can I cancel that under the 14 day cooling off. Just get the new Q box.

If you go on their website you can do the chat function and ask your questions or phone during the day and get their Scottish call centre
How old is your old box?
I doubt if they’ve deliberately sabotaged it.
You may find that nothing happens about your TV until you call them back, at which point you may also find that theres nothing in your notes about Sky Q and you have to start all over again.
This may result in your 'superfast broadband' not performing as advertised and your landline not working any more.
Further, you may be given a 29th December date for the Sky Q installation which will include new dish and cable installed by a COVID aware operative.

If this does happen you may find yourself reaching for that card from Virgin that popped through the door the other day.

I'm afraid Sky aren't the company they once were and are drinking in the Last Chance saloon with me, good luck.
I'm sorry, I never answered your questions.

The Sky Q equiment is loaned to the customer for the period of the contract. You can have it without multi-roomand yes you can cancel if it's no better than before.
As to remotely interfering with your channels, I doubt it, maybe your dish has been moved slightly and a tweak would cure everything, of course then Sky wouldn't be able to show a new customer on the books.
Do you know anybody else that could lend you their box to test the dish?

Remember the power to the box must be OFF before you disconnect/reconnect the dish cable.
If it does turn out to be the box and they won't give you a non Q replacement you could always look for a second hand box.
plenty of recon ones on amazon
Just go on eBay and buy a second hand box.

As an update. Although I wasn’t able to receive any channels, I was able to go on catchup, download and then view recordings. Also view previous recordings., even those recorded weeks ago that I haven’t been able to watch. This morning that’s not possible. Even all my recordings are gone. So it appears SKY are able to remotely influence things.
More likely your box has been gradually failing.
I had a new Sky Q box a few months ago. You do not have to pay for it. I also have multi-room. I changed to a new updated package with more channels on an 18 month package and since the new box has been in my monthly bill has gone down by £12.
Yes, your box is probably on the blink.
They won't have remotely zapped your recordings.
Sky won't want to lose a customer, so they'll replace your box free of charge and you can negotiate a new package.
Threaten to leave. It's amazing what discounts they suddenly find they can throw at you. Refuse the first offer and it might get more generous.
