Cracked corners of mouth

The corners of my mouth are very dry, sore and cracked. This happened last year when I was a bit stressed and run down and now it's started again (probably for the same reason). However, I've read it could be an iron deficiency so am taking one-a-day multi vitamins (that include iron) but what is the best thing to apply to keep my skin from getting very sore; have betnovate, hydro-cortisone cream, Savlon or germolene (not sure which) and Vaseline to hand. TIA

Vaseline stimuletes the hair growth of hair on your upper lip as well I recently found out...So book a waxing appt for when it's all better! :c)

I was gonna tell you about carmex but pastafreak beat me to it lol. Only thing is the smell of it.... it's a love it or hate it thing :) It also not as greasy as vaseline so I don't think you notice it on your lips as much, especially if you're applying it throughout the day x

I believe pastafreack meant `Cymex` not Carmex, which I found works for Cracked lips and cold sores.

Yes, lots of advice about what to put on it but have you had a blood test lately?
I suffered like that too corner of eye's as well were sore. Turns out I was deficiant of VIT B 12. my doctor gives me an injection every 3 months and I've had no trouble since. May not be your prob but worth checking out.

I went to my Dr about this and he gave me a steroid cream(Elocon) that worked so far,but the iron tablets he prescribed worked so much better.I don't know if they are prescription only,but they work so much better than the multi vits with iron(I also tried them)

Tell him the prob and ask him if he feels as if one is needed. He prob won't do it, he'll send you to the local phlebotomy clinic. They will send results back to him.

There is a cream called 'Synalar' which is excellent too but its prescription only which your doc might reccomend first (mind you if you have to pay for prescriptions £7.40 it will be expensive for you) see how you get on.

Chemist said to use Vaseline or aquaeous cream, will perhaps get a second opinion form a different chemist though as she just had quick glance at my face then seemed keen to get rid of me (didn't realise it made me look that hideous lol!) Thanks for all the help by the way!

I use vaseline every night and havnt had cracked lips since. Im sure I once read that eating tomatoes help too.

As I've already mentioned even smothering my lips in Vaseline every night hasn't been enough to keep them from cracking during the day (and it's not my lips, it's the corners of my mouth) I eat quite a lot of tomatoes anyway so will hopefully get any benefits coincidentally!

When I had this problem a doctor told me it was due to angular cheilitis which I would have for the rest of my life. It does keep coming back. He prescribed Trimovate cream. This is prescription only but works very quickly and very well. I use it whenever the problem comes back.
