Does Anyone Else Hate All The Christmas Hype
32 Answers
I can't bear reading all the Christmas greetings, everyone trying to outdo each other with better pictures of trees, presents, etc - its just another day and I hate it with a vengeance. It makes no difference whether people wish you a Merry Christmas or not, its what it is and no amount of fake posturing will make it any different. Had to turn my phone off this morning as it kept pinging with meaningless messages. When will they learn its a waste of time! Off to take my dogs out now before my steak and chips for dinner. Roll on tomorrow for the racing on tv.

Not got a problem with other people enjoying Christmas, providing they don't constantly try to draw me into their hype. I've been called miserable for many years at Christmas time, no its not, its called keeping a level head. Its after Christmas I see miserable people, the very ones who had all the hype and over excitement.

Christmas is about the only time most family and friends are free at the same time so it's what you and yours make it.
Dave and I haven't seen our family and UK friends since 2019 and because some are elderly, have died this year or sadly will before we can see them again we have made the best of these few days.
We've used it as a day to have fun with silly photos, WhatsApps and banter to join in with our families as they do the same.
We've had a wonderful, fun day. We've welcomed and responded to the messages we've received. No fake posturing for us. Just a day to share with family and friends, many of whom should have been here with us. We've all made the most of what we can do in this strange year and it's made us and our friends and families really happy.

Despite knowing I couldn't afford to buy presents this year my sister still sent me a pile of stuff, 'it's nothing' she said, best quess of the value at least £100 maybe a bit more. So I feel even more hopeless than I did before. she also gave me some money. Dave would have hated this. I know it's my own fault I spent the lump sum component of my pension ensuring he had the best few years I could and I don't regret it but I feel a complete failure ....
Why feel a failure, Rowan? Let folk do what makes them happy to do.
My first Christmas as a single parent saw me without a bean. A casual chat with some friends saw the husband of one pop by with the present I'd mentioned my son wanted but I couldn't afford. They were able and happy to do it for me. When things changed I was able to express my gratitude to them in a different way. It's just what we should do for each other as we are able to....x

I don’t hate Christmas. For a couple of good reasons, I choose to not be involved in it at all. My good friends appreciate this and don’t buy me anything. I give and receive gifts on our birthdays.
Today OH, our dog and myself have been birding and then for a long walk.
Lots of interesting birds, possibly due to the fact that it was so quiet. Blue sky, sunshine and crispy cold. Wonderful.
Home for roast dinner and recorded film.
