I downloaded the Windows XP Video Decoder Checkup Utility as advised by Ethel. I then selected the correct decoder, restarted, played the dvd and it worked fine. But if I take the DVD out and put it back in again, I goes weird again.

I checked the decoder utitliy to see if it had changed, but it hadnt. Anyone have any ideas??? Its drving me mad!

I'd have thought the vast majority of codecs needed by WMP11 would've been included and as you've added some you've been recommended to I doubt if the codecs are the problem. Are you sure the grade of the disc (+/-) are correct for your dvd player and d'yer think the disc could be dirty?

no it happens with every disc, and its WMP 10 I have not 11
