I've already mentioned the extra protection using a credit card gives you. A real scenario - you save up for a long time and finally order that new, expensive 3 piece suite and pay for it in cash. Two days before delivery the company goes bust - you have very likely lost most or all of your money. Had you paid by credit card you would get all your money back. Or the computer you bought becomes faulty within weeks of buying it. The seller is refusing to refund you - but the credit card company is equally liable so claim off them. Easier than taking the seller to court.
Just don't be tempted to use it to buy things you can't afford and would not buy if you had to save.

Don't use a credit card anymore. Hadn't used it for years except for larger items and the insurance aspect, but had a letter from bank when I reached a certain age saying that I couldn't use it for insurance purposes any more. Kept it for emergency use just in case I lost my debit card, but then had another letter saying it had been cancelled because I hadn't used it for years.
