Twelve Republican Senators Plan To Oppose The Certification Of Biden’s Presidential Win
The Republican’s reason for opposing the certification is voter fraud that robbed Trump of a second term, despite no evidence of wide-spread voter fraud.
Political pundits have pointed out that this is a waste of time, as both houses (Senate and Representatives) must each vote with a majority to halt the certification; since the House of Representatives is controlled by Democrats there is no possibility of success.
Pundits have pointed out that this shows that democracy works in the USA – that Trump and his cronies cannot steal the election like they are in some third-world Banana Republic.
But consider for a moment that the Republicans held a majority in both Houses – then America could indeed become a country with an election process more crooked than Russia.

Well done for admitting that at 1,866 polling stations in mainly black and latino areas have closed.
In 2013 the Supreme Court effectively annulled the Voting Rights Act of 1965. The Supreme Court was independent of President Obama. With the Voting Rights Act killed, the Republican States were given the right to change there voting procedures, including how many polling stations and where they were situated. This they did.
The voting population first noticed the changes in the 2016 election. They found their local voting stations shut and the ones they were supposed to vote at were many miles away. And crowded and long waits to vote.
Trump won, and the Republican districts continued to close polling stations throughout his term, because it clearly favoured Trump.
No doubt that was one of the reasons that prompted a huge increase in the number of people registering for a postal vote.
2020, 1866 poling stations shut, increase in postal voting off the scale, and Republicans whinging, when it was them that set it all in motion.

The polling stations were closed during the Obama presidency to facilitate the postal voting and electronic voting that has resulted in the mass fraud that we see but must not speak of on here. The results of this will soon be irreversible but will likely not affect me one iota at my age. I can only hope that all who have facilitated it by default, negligence, or misguided corruption get to experience the obvious horror to come. You in particular.
Togo,
The Supreme Court in 2013 divided down Party lines, 5 Republicans against 4 Democrats. So the 1965 Voting Act was killed.
As a result nine Republican states — Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Texas and Virginia changed the law to make voting more difficult for poorer people.
So people were forced by their Republican overlords to change their voting habits from voting personally to voting by mail. Obama, the Democrats and 4 of the Supreme Court judges are blameless of the changes, that were enacted by Republican state legislators.

The polling stations were closed during the Obama presidency. Trump did not close the polling stations. They were closed, mainly it was said at the time, because of very low turnouts and migration to urban centres. The latinos and black voters have been surprisingly avid Republican supporters for a number of years, before Trump even stood for office. Obama was furious, he thought he had them all bought and paid for and pushed through a programme to close the outliers and replace them with electronic booths that could be monitored, and postal votes that could be washed. It may not become accepted knowledge, yet, that there has been possibly the most audacious fraud perpetrated on the public in America but it will come. You will then have to make your excuses all over again or flounce off in temper, as you have a habit of doing. As I say it will not have time enough to poison my life, but it will certainly prove toxic to countless billions of others. I hope that your is one of them.

The states had the right to proceed with elections and do their own stuff and I think the supreme ct reaffirmed this - it was not a federal matter. BUT the Reps were later prevented from saying this was unfair to the greatest man in the world - because they had used the system 2016.
I can now see why england and scotland arent federated - all it does is generate a huge ( EUSSR) layer of extra govt interference and litigation which goes nowhere ( nil added value)

These senators are well aware it's all a pointless exercise. They are just sucking up to Trump's idiotic fanbase with a view to protecting their own ***. They don't want to be seen as disloyal to the dear leader.
Politicians eh?, they'd rather support a lunatic's attempted coup than risk incurring the wrath of his cult members and republican voters in general. Pathetic, but your're right about how dangerous it all could have been if the numbers were different.
America need to learn a few lessons from this whole farce, but I fear that once Biden's installed it will all be forgotten, and they'll reassure themselves that the system was strong enough to prevail.

electronic booths monitored I will buy as this was used as evidence in the 40 or so cases just heard - the obserrvers observe and do not have the right to demand each vote is verified and scrutinised in front of them
postal votes washed - no evidence so far altho plenty of allegations.
Obama was a prof of constitutional law - I cant believe he got elected to subvert and cheat the system he taught on
[bit like saying Sqad raised moolah by doing dentistry and abortions as a sideline] - or Jim doesnt do theoretical physics from a maff point of view but is a supply teacher at primary skool - in History! or TTT has episodes of sanity...]

Ich,
It’s not just Trump though.
The insanity is at State Governor and down, and is deep rooted. Pence, the probable next Republican nominee seems to have learned from his mentor, and just as barmy.
The Republicans need to claim their party back from the fringe wackos, but they don’t seem to want to.

//“The system” seems quite strong to me.//
There were numerous points in the coup attempt when it didn't seem strong at all because it relied on people acting with integrity rather than being bound by law to do so. Thankfully Trump is an idiot who behaves irrationally. A cleverer and saner would-be dictator might have more success in the future.
