Those struggling to pay their energy bills are going to be even worse off trying to heat their homes all day every day when normally they might have been out or working most of the day. Nobody seems to have thought about this amongst all the hysteria.

NJ, preparation is key, don't wait until the winter is up on you, in any case no warm clothing from last year? I bought three electric heaters this summer when they were more or less giving them away, just in case of any boiler problems this year. Try and get such heaters in the depth of winter in an emergency. Do you not prepare/ pack summer clothing when going on holiday? well not this year.

I never buy clothes online. It’s a waste of time and money, principally because manufacturers and retailers cannot agree what “forty inches” means. Buy a jacket to (supposedly) fit a forty inch chest in one shop and you can’t do it up, buy one in another and you can get somebody else inside it with you. Complete farce. Far worse for women, I know. They can drop two dress sizes simply by buying their clothes in a different shop. And don’t even think of mentioning shoes.

I’m well prepared with all my clothing (and just about everything else) thanks, tc. But you did give me the impression that people should simply pop out know and buy half a dozen sweaters. I’m also not complaining about the size of my energy bills (though I’d prefer not to have to pay owners of wind turbines to keep them idle when it’s too windy).

I think your just a bit cantankerous at times:0) But must agree regarding clothing size, hit and miss., and i can well understand why some shops are on their knees at the moment, before full lock down I saw a summer jacket going for pennies really, but the sign in the shop said you were not allowed to try (anything) on, now this was not a case of needing to use the changing rooms, but slip my own jacket off, and try the new one on, ( seconds to do) but no, it stated that you take it home to try on, and bring back if not required. Apart from all the hassle and expense of that, the goods you're taking home and bringing back have a bigger chance of becoming infected, ( if we believe such) than the seconds it takes to try them there and then. Needless to say they lost a sale, and many thousands more I would think.
