I remember seeing a charity on TV that takes them and recycles them but I can't remember the name. Thinking about it, they must be quite valuable.

They have next to no value. Low grade insulated copper.. if you cut the plugs and sockets off. Strip back the insulation to make them into single wires.. You will get 40p a kilo for them.
