My daughter was involved in setting up "Postcards of Kindness" when she worked for a private care home company. It's grown huge, with care homes literally all over the UK and some worldwide registered. I think there are over 40,000 members now. The effect on the residents is immeasurable, not only the joy of receiving and reading the cards and looking at the pictures but residents with dementia remember their holidays and my daughter said some people, who spoke rarely, took part in discussions with other residents. All this for the cost of a postcard. Please check the "Postcards of Kindness" site and perhaps send a card.
Did we do something like this before? It may have been that Roo mentioned it because I recall sending postcards from holiday places to care homes because it reminded residents of their holidays. Can't think where else I'd have heard of it...lovely thing to do.
Even now with the ease of communicating with family I do like to get a letter or holiday postcard.
