Community Pharmacists

What exactly is a community pharmacy?
We have a pharmacy attached to our GP surgery.
There are two pharmacies in local high streets.
There’s a pharmacy in both Asda and Sainsburys.
There’s a fairly large Boots locally with a pharmacy.
Are they all community pharmacies?

Yes, in my book they are.....pharmacies that serve the community.

That’s what I thought Sqad, so I wonder why the term ‘community pharmacy’ has started to be used, rather than just ‘pharmacy’.

Yes, as Sqad says, your local 'chemist' (to use the term that my parents' generation would have used, and many people still do) is a community pharmacy. The term is used to differentiate such pharmacies from those which, for example, are found in hospitals or, say, the 'dispensary' which can be found at my local GP's surgery.

I ask because there’s talk of the vaccine being given at community pharmacies soon, which would be great, I wondered what one is and how it differs from an ordinary pharmacy. Looks like it is the local chemist.
