Yes... you need a questionnaire and DBS check :-)
Free to good home? Why would you care if anyone was going to give your old tat a 'good home' or not?
I think polly it’s just a polite way of saying please take my trash
Apg, I suspect that was Barry's point :-). As long as it doesn't involve pets... it's just as MM says.
A few people might mean it to say "Genuine people in need, please. No traders, who simply want to sell it on for a profit, welcome", and some might even actually care whether or not their old teddy is looked after well in his new home, but for most people it's just a jokey way of saying "Please, please, please help me get rid of all this rubbish!"

The young guy next door to me is a 'man with a van' and last year, he helped pick up two leather settees from my brother's house. The small amount i paid him also included ridding me of my old 3 piece (minus one armchair which is my 'tv chair). We took it outside where he replaced all the cushions and took a couple of pics. He posted them on a local site and within the hour, a needy young couple came up for them.

I think it is great that people are rehoming their unwanted goods but it is the wording of the posts that get me - it's just an unthinking habit.
Thanks for the explanation -some things go over my head I'm afraid :-)
