The Catholic Church is perhaps the best known church for dealing with such stuff.
(Thanks to the movie 'The Exorcist')
Just wondering what the deal is with other denominations, eg J.W's..

As a very young (ex) evangelical, I saw a few services where these kind of ceremonies were practiced. It freaked me out. Years later, with an understanding of basic human psychology,
It seems primitive to say the least.

BUT, Back to the question, do other denominations still practice this?
And in addition, why?

Spungle, no I don't. Thanks for your response, now I know what I am dealing with.
You're more than welcome, Atheist. Trust you have had an excellent weekend.
Thanks, Spungle; fine so far, but it's not midnight yet. What other non-material things do you believe in?
R C church isnt like a supermarket or bank (!)

I agree that attendance at Mass is sort of on demand but other things arent.Like exorcism.
You have to sort of book one. I think the local Bish has to say "yeah!" and permission is not automatic.

even if he doesnt I cant say that this is keeping me awake at night - -
.. Possessed of Demonic forces or a Born again Christian??//

o god I know that one - born again - having seen schizophrenia present as demonic posession
no contest on that one
woooo000ooooo000 .... it will tonight Pedant, who I come rune....
Thanks, Atheist- not sure how this relates to Nailits question- but non-material things I personally believe in? The soul, fresh air, a sense of humour....?! What about you?

//Locking up the demon-possessed isn't a bad plan, for their sake, or for the public, in the absence of exorcisms//

Someone please tell me thats ^ a wind up!!
//I think people believe what they want to, what they feel in their guts: me, I prefer to think with my brain, not my intestines.//

Atheist, I must add that to my list of alternative parts of the anatomy some people have been attributed to thinking with.

I was hoping for a well thought out discussion but oh well!!
It IS after all R&S in Answerbank.
It would appear that Psych units are the
best place for victims of demonic entity possession.
(Just cant wrap my head around how people in the 21 century can still believe in such carp)
Funny how modern day meds can stiffle the activities of an etheral, non-material entity.

Ive witnessed excorcisms in the past, and just thought that the person been 'ministered' to needs a little love and a bit of councilling and some help with everyday needs.

NOT locking up in an institution or the wrath of the puritanical
God Gang.
I don't think spungle is entirely wrong? I think there have been many exorcisms performed in the past on people that were actually schizophrenic or epileptic etc, they just didn't know at that time.
I would hope they were a thing of the past now, they should be- at least.
I have participated in an exorcism, although we didn't used that word. (Elim Pentecostal if that matters)
I wont say what happenned as the atheists simply wouldn't believe me anyway, except to say it was a very happy outcome for all
You're right... in that I don't believe it was an "exorcism" already. But glad it was a good outcome.

//Elim Pentecostal if that matters//
Same roots as AOG & Apostolic Pentecostolism...
(Early 1900's)
And that was full of nutters too.

I started my (teenage) life as an evangelical Pentecostal.
Look in to the origins of the pentecostal cult.
Might be an eye-opener.
Nailit, I haven't been involved with an Elim Pentecostal church since 1995, but dont get hung up about denominations. The quality of biblical teaching, fellowship and love for each other matter far for me than what they might call themselves
