I'm looking for a book covering sports champions and winner through the ages. I do lots of crosswords and there seems to be a growing number of question regarding sports and winners. In desperation I usually end up on line but would prefer to have a book of some kind I can look things up that way.
Can anyone help please.

I think you might be out of luck, Caran. The growth of the internet has meant that a lot of reference works are no longer published in print format. For example, the Guinness Encyclopaedia of International Sports Records and Results would, at one time, have been the obvious book to refer to but, sadly, it's not been published for over 20 years now.

The only titles still in print seem to be those related to specific sports, such as the Wisden Cricketers' Almanack, but there are no longer any 'general' print publications (to the best of my knowledge - although I'm happy to be proved wrong!).

Sorry!

[BTW: Was that draft will document for you brother, that I uploaded for you a few days ago, of any use to you/him?]

Hi Chris, thanks for that info, disappointing though.
I forwarded the info on wills to him. Not heard back from him yet. I'm a bit worried I'll get accused of interfering in his life! He's a bit like that so I'm leaving it to him for a while.
>>> I forwarded the info on wills to him

Did that include the draft document? (I added it on near to the end of your thread, so I was unsure as to whether you'd seen it or not).

Yes chris I sent him everything thank you.
the nearest is the Guinness Book of Records.... https://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/
I always had books of lists, all sorts but the sporting records/results ones become dated very quickly and needed replacing so I use the internet now.

This one seems to be popular, according to the comments.
Well done on finding that, Stephen!

If it concentrates on facts that don't change (such as the answer to "Which team won the FA Cup in 1978?") it could be a very useful source of information. However, as Mamyalynne points out, sports records for 'the longest', 'the fastest', etc often change very quickly.

How sad am I?
I already have this book. It was on lower shelf on bookcase, didn't realise the sporting extent of the book.
Will use this now. Thank you very much.
I reckon you are planning to copy Back To The Future II.

You are going to time travel back with your book of sporting winners, and get rich placing bets.
