smart casual wear

Hi Im a fairly incompetent 25 yr old guy when it comes to fashion and im wondering what can I wear thats smart casual for an evening out, apart from a pair of jeans and a nice shirt? Any ideas?

smart combats (green, black, beige etc) with a logo t-shirt, or, for when it gets cooler a jumper, team it up with some boots and try some gel in your hair to give you a different style, ask in your local department store for some advice,
