We are getting many calls from littlewoods and or national debt collection company. The person they are after has moved out and we say this each time and hang up. They ring again, usually they do several times a day. It is understandable they do not believe us, but my question is:
What can we do about it?

Tell them that you'll sue them for harassment if they keep ringing when you've told them not to, because that's what it is.
The only person who can call off a debt collection agency is the company who sold the debt to them - get in touch with Littlewoods and tell them.
Put your details on the telephone preference service. It akes a while but does stop the calls.

I get this from the other end: as a caring caring landlord when I chuck someone out for non payment of rent, I know that the final demands and CCJs will still plop onto new tenants carpet non stop for up to a year.

Does anyone know if it is lawful for me to intentionally open letters addressed to someone else and answer them ? Basically I want to say Back off, I have let to someone else. and that the debt is neither mine or my new tenants

Otherwise you are right, they call around and dont stop......

Sherriffs are coming is a good teevee prog - their first call is often the address where the post is returned 'gone away for ever' - because everyone does that apparently.
