I wish Karma existed but, unfortunately, I've seen the nicest man in the word (to me) die a long-protracted illness, born with dignity over several years, and a vicious horrible woman who caused so much heartache and trouble, die suddenly in her sleep with no pain.
Khandro - // Ghandi wasn't a high court judge, (& he wasn't a Buddhist) If he had been in the 1950s and had before him a person who had been found guilty by a jury of first degree pre-meditated murder, he would have had no alternative but to do his duty on behalf of the country & it's laws other than pass the death sentence, no matter how much he may have found it personally objectionable. //

If that post is directed to me - I didn't mention Ghandi, so I have no idea what his relevance is in your post.

// Humphreys did his upmost during his time to have the law of the death penalty changed, which eventually came into being, but not until 1973. //

My point is not that you can join the system and advocate change that goes against your beliefs - it is that you cannot join the system and perpetuate the actions that are against your beliefs, because while endeavouring to change them, you are still offending your beliefs by being a part of the system to which your beliefs object.
APG - // I wish Karma existed but, unfortunately, I've seen the nicest man in the word (to me) die a long-protracted illness, born with dignity over several years, and a vicious horrible woman who caused so much heartache and trouble, die suddenly in her sleep with no pain. //

Proof, if any were needed that 'karma' is nothing more than a wish system perpetuated by human nature.

We wish it could be so - but it clearly isn't.
Don't believe in Karma, but I am glad this human piece of filth is suffering - may his suffering continue and I pray they don't waste a precious ventilator on him!

Don't hold back will you!!!

No, why should I???
No, Khandro, he wasn’t, and putting to one side for a moment a certain immoderator who can’t read very well, but don’t get shifty, my lad.

He was an advocate of the law and of ahimsa (non-violence to the puzzled), so the comparison is valid.

Ask yourself instead, what would Ashoka have done?
