CD Player acting strangely

I have a Sony CD walkman which is about two years old and it's just started to play weirdly.

It just seems to cut out a section of the music, for example the bass or the voice, and the volume is affected too - sometimes it goes quiet randomly or suddenly starts only playing in one headphone or switching between the two. It also seems to get worse with movement - it works perfectly when I'm sitting still, on a bus or in a car it's a bit temperamental, but I can't walk and listen to it at the same time because the problem is so bad, no matter how much I pad it out with a jumper or something. I've tried new headphones and it's the same, so it's definitely the CD player itself.

Is there any hope for it? I'm assuming I'll have to give in and buy an mp3 player but it'd be interesting to know what the problem is anyway.

Sounds like it could be the jack plug port itself if you have tried different headphones (which would have been my first guess).
The port can get worn with general use but it sounds you have just been unlucky. Its probably not worth getting it fixed although its a very easy thing to get fixed.
If you can find an old fashioned shop that fixes tellys and stereos and the like (increasingly rare) they will be able to fix it.
Sadly nowadays electrical items are disposable items and when they go wrong you are expected to throw it away and buy this years model.

I've a spare one if you want it but you are, as you say, better of with an mp3 player.
