Do you use a smartphone.. go on to (view)/use social media? .. take photos/selfies ? .. scan QR codes? .. use your phone for GPS (maps) and satnav navigation? Are you a youngster or an 'oldun (like me) ? Do you understannd modern tech/gadgets?
I don't. I do wonder how everyone has time to actually get on and do things rather than swipe-swipe-swipe-swipe-swipe-swipe-swipe-swipe-swipe... etc
Yes, I use it for lots of things. Mobile banking, school notification app, GPS, maps etc., not to mention the usual stuff like WhatsApp, social media, games and so on.
emmie, you can buy your new smartphone online. You don't need to wait for the shops to open.
I don't need to squint at my screen - as it is held closer to the face than a laptop screen or pc monitor it is very crisp and clear, so easy to read.
It saves me lots of money as I price compare when out and about.
It navigates me from A-B when I am away from home - no more buying A-Zs that I will only use once.
I can read books whilst I'm sat in the car waiting (that happens a lot) or play Scrabble.
It's an alarm clock.
I use it to access all my files and documents when I'm not at home - that has been very useful many times.
I can get on AB when I'm out and about and twiddling my thumbs.
I use it to make payments - no more scrabbling for change for car parking or bus fares.
It's my calendar so I don't 'double date' appointments when I'm out.
Before lockdown I was away from home a lot. I used to it access my CCTV to view motion recordings and get live views of what was happening at home. I still do that if I wake in the night and hear noises, much clearer images in the dark than looking out of the window.
I have never taken a selfie and never will but I am reassured by knowing that every photo I do take is backed up immediately. I was in a minor car accident a couple of years ago and took photos of the other car, the damage and the driver and his passengers. He didn't take kindly to that and snatched my phone. The photos were still there, in the cloud, and were used as evidence to prosecute him.
My phone is 4 years old, was never a hugely expensive phone but will still be good for another few years. A bargain in my opinion, so many tools (and toys) in such a small package.
Jackdaw....yes WhatsApp is available on laptop. Desktop and tablet......however you have to have another mobile number different to you mobile.
Apparently you can't have the same number for more 5han one device.
Yes I have a smartphone, since I started using it I've never had to use my computer, I thether it to my tablet so I can do all I need to without a desktop or laptop.
"As far as the eye could see in either direction of the carriages there was a sea of faces, a good ninety percent of who seemed trancelike staring at plastic screens, frequently rubbing their fingers across the plastic, occasionally tapping with both thumbs like a demented twin beaked woodpecker."
Lots of swipe-swipe-swipe-swipe-swipe-swipe-swipe-swipe-swipe...
