Tight Shoes

Without having a proper shoe stretcher,what is good and effective way of stretching a pair of men's shoes? Thanks.

I recall mum cramming a pair of shoes tightly with *just-damp* crumpled newspaper & leaving overnight.

I had many tight shoes when I was young but the damp paper never worked for me so a waste of time and newspaper LOL

Thanks everyone for your replies,I think L'll give the damp paper a try.

My Dad used to use damp newspaper and he would also gently hammer the inside of the heel if they were rubbing there, it softened the leather.
