hi, the majority of my dvds will not play on the dvd player, however one or two will - I don't understand, as all of them are the same region / format, and I have watched them all before, and they still work on the laptop dvd player. could there be a problem with the dvd player? but then why would it play one or two and not the rest? please help, thanks.

try using a dvd cleaner it could be that. failing that the chances are your laser is near meeting its maker (knackered). if they are all the same region and the disc arent scratched to hell then thats all i got. good luck
A DVD laser lens cleaning disc can often resolve marginal playing problems such as you described.
Try an easier suggestion first - clean the discs.
If the DVD player is less than 6 months old, take it back to where you bought it from as you are entitled to a free exchange or refund because it is faulty. This applies to all electrical items. If it's older than that see if it is covered by the warranty. (Or check the shop's policy as they may accept faulty items back for a longer period - unlikely though) Usually in the back of the manual there is a troubleshooting section too, or the website of the make of DVD player (sony etc) could help.
trust me, you will NOT get a refund or exchange ofter 6 months. You will only get this if: -

A. it is within th 14 or 28 days period
B. It has been sent off by the retailer to an engineer who says it is beyond repair.

Walking into comet or dixeons or whetever 6 months later with a faulty product will result in them sending it off for repairs. Ive been there! Its annoying!
