have you tried steam..towel over head and hot water in basin...?

What do you mean by..."cararrh?"

Discharge from the nose? If so what colour? Is it thick or watery?
Any nasal blockage? Do you snore at night? Any sneezing? How long have you had this?

If not from the nose....does it drip down the back of your throat?

Without this information one cannot give you a reasoned answer as catarrh is a layman's term and not a medical term.

My brother suffered from it and as he was a semi-professional singer used to panic - so he swallowed broken egg-shells with milk to "break" up the catarrh.

Good grief! That sounds very drastic, he could end up with a damaged throat.
