Returning From Abroad

Have been asked by a friend to check out the procedure for her return to UK - both parents British, friend born here and left UK at about about 4years old when parents emigrated to South Africa -she holds British passport - have checked out the Government site and as far as I can see she comes under 'right of abode' as a UK citizen - is there any one able to advise is I'm missing anything please. Thank you

Your friend having a British passport doesn't automatically mean that she's a British citizen. Other categories of people (such as British overseas territories citizens, British overseas citizens and British subjects) can qualify for British passports but aren't 'full' British citizens.

So your friend should check whether she qualifies as a British citizen here:

(The rules vary and depend on her date of birth).

If your friend is definitely a British citizen, then she automatically has a right of abode in the UK. [Section 2(1)(a), Immigration Act 1971 applies].

PS: South Africa is currently a 'red list' country, meaning that (as things stand) your friend would be required to follow the quarantine rules given here:

Thank you Buenchico that's extremely helpful - I'll send her the link - it's going to be a while as she has a farm to sell by which time we hope the quarantine restrictions will be less severe but she is aware of the current requirements. Stay well and thank you once again.

what is she travelling on?
it says in her passport doesnt it?

anyway - British parents and born here she pretty obviously is British. ( more than I - parents NOT born here)
