Has anyone got a tried & tested recipe for bread pudding. My late mum gave me her recipe, but I never made it as my boys didn't like it.
I am sure my mum put suet in her pudding, but looking at various recipes, no suet used. Thanks.

Do you mean the stodgy old fashioned bread pudding? When I mention this to some people, the immediately think of bread and butter pudding, which I don't like.
My mum makes bread pudding which is mashed up bread with raisins, sultanas, cloves and cinnamon. Once cooled she cuts it into squares.

I prefer bread and butter pudding myself, made with brioche.

That's it tigger!
Ah, well, I love this one! I make it sometimes. A simple recipe.
Soak bread in water, how much depends on how big You want it.
Drain off water. Mix an egg in, I put sultanas in, cinnamon, brown sugar, a little drop of milk, Mix altogether. Put in oven quite low for 1-1. 1/4 hours.
I think she adds an egg, milk, butter and sugar. You can use mixed dried fruit.
I make it for my Dad sometimes but there's no suet in the recipe.
Simple recipe here, you could replace the butter with a little suet I imagine.

There's a few recipes between these links and they're probably similar. I think I made Coriander's or Shaneystar's from the second link.

Think I'll have to make some now.
I used to make bread pudding for paying customers in the 90s.
I would use 2 stale crusty loaves( w/meal)
Cut up into chunks leave in a basin or big pot of water for about 4 hrs.
Squeeze water out by putting bread between 2 plates. Then transfer to large mixing bowl. Add 8oz melted butter. 8 oz brown sugar. 4 oz rolled oats. 1 tbsp mixed spices. Give it a good stir. Transfer to a well greased oblong roasting tin. Id wud also put a peice of greaseproof paper on top. Put in pre-heated oven gas mark 3 for about 45mins. Viola!
