Dual layer dvd drives

I'm fed up with the limits of 4.7gb and want to go dual layer. The new dual layer dvd drives are now quite cheap but will I need to buy special double layer dvds or is it like long play video and I can somehow double the capacity of a 4.7gb dvd? This may seem like a stupid question to those in the know but it certainly isn't obvious from the specs of the new dual layer drives.

You will need dual layer DVDs - which should be available by the end of the month. As for which one to buy im getting a LG 4120BB which has multiformat support and DVD RAM as well.

Thanks a lot. I'm trying to break the family luddite mould. I too have seen these LG 4120s at a good price on ebay and may well just get one of those then. Cheers :o)
