Cleaning vomit off carpet

Sorry about the subject but I had a bout of projectile vomiting last night and as it woke me up, the first time it shot all over the bedroom carpet. Luckily, I had staggered to the bathroom for the next couple of upheaving.

It was no fun cleaning at 4 in the morning and despite my best efforts with a carpet cleaning mousse its not coming out.

Does anyone have any ideas for an alternative ?

i have a friend whose small daughter threw up over their brand new hall carpet, they claimed on the house insurance when they couldnt get it out and got a new one put in for them.
