Have you had Otoplasty (ear surgery?)

Otoplasty is a procedure carried out on those who have ears which are large and/or stick out appreciably. I am considering this surgery and wondered if anyone could share their expriences i.e your age when you had it done,whether male/female,how the operation went,what was the outcome,where you happy with the outcome,how are things now? any complications ? Thanks

My youngest daughter had this operation performed when she was ten - she's thirteen now - because her ears, although the correct size, were rather prominent. I'm delighted to report that after a couple of days' discomfort, she was free of pain, and managed the 'turban' bandaging with no trouble at all. Once the stitching healed, there is no trace of the surgery, she has had no complications or ill effects, and is delighted with her 'new' ears, which healed in time for her to start high school. In surgery terms, this is a simple proceedure, and if - as I assume - you are an adult, you should have no problems with, or after your operation. Best wishes with it.

Hi, I had Otoplasty two weeks ago under local anaesthetic. I am 32 so had to pay to have it done privately at a cost of �2385. The op took 1 1/2 hours and it wasn't pleasant as you could hear everything they were doing. The injections to numb the ears is also very painful. The operation varies depending on the change required to the ears, I had cartilage removed and a crease added to both ears. The recovery was much more painful than I expected, alot of pulling around the ears whenever I moved, smiled etc. One week on I had my turban bandage removed to see the results, I was horrfiied, they were so swollen and bruised. I have to wear a sweat band over them for six weeks at night. But after two weeks I can honestly say that although they still hurt, they now look much more normal but I think it will be a few more weeks until I see the best results. My advice is only do it if you really need to, find a reputable/registered surgeon (baaps.co.uk), have local anaesthetic with sedation, be prepared for swollen ears and for results to take time.
