Noisy electric scooters
12 Answers
I am plagued by kids on loud electric scooters racing up and down the road and pavements outside my house. The noise is driving me insane. Who should I complain to? The Police? The Council? They have no adult supervision, and I'm sure they can't have licenses or insurance.

They aren't that bad - Just put some loud music on or something. The worst ones are fast drivers - And they aren't just the youths! I'm seventeen and got overtaken on the inside lane of the motorway on Saturday by a middle aged man... What a ****!!!
Guitarmarama if the middle aged ****!!! had room to undertake you, do you not think you should have been in lane 1 and not hogging lane 2 in a daydream. I was flashing my lights at you for 2 miles and all that loud music has made you deaf as well because you payed no attention to my car horn either.
First of all, try saying to the kids (don't get angry or they'll get cheeky) that they're not supposed to play there and why don't they go to the park? If that doesn't work, try the police initially, but if that doesn't work go straight to your councillor. Find out when they hold their surgery. If they can't do anything, write to your MP, and also to the readers' page of your local paper. If still no joy, organise a petition and try to get your local shop, post office, etc to have it at the counter for all to sign. Or start a pressure group. Get together with other people who agree with you and hold a public meeting. Who knows? It could lead to a national campaign.
As I understood it (but in neater words thanks to viking direct of all people)
The Law on Electric Scooters. Electric scooters are not meant for road use, they are meant for use on private land and cannot be used on the road or pavement without the rider breaking the law. An electric scooter is classed by the police as a motor vehicle requiring the operator to hold a driving licence and third party insurance. Any scooter that can travel faster than 5 mph is classed by the DVLA as a moped requiring it to be taxed and appropriate protective headgear worn. so if the little "darlings" keep driving around your house phone the police and MAKE them do something as this is the law as it stands... I believe they have the power to confiscate as they don't have insurance... tho this might not make you particularly popular with the local youth... but then again what the heck you'll get some peace and quiet
Have you considered some very sexy looking fluffy earmuffs for the more concerting brat ignorer!!! Have a peek, you know you want to.......... http://store1.yimg.com/I/sportsbay_1793_1099110

In reply to loadsamoney's comment, let me get two things clear. One, despite my love for music, I am NOT a scally. I do not like bang bang music, but listen to folk, classical and good old fashioned rock, none of the pap out today. Secondly, I have a mild form of tonitis from an accident when I was younger, and so do not listen to music loud. Thirdly, Let me explain the situation to you. I was driving along the M60 when I overtook a car. It so happened that this was in front of a junction. Therefore by the time I got past the car, I had to leave room, because I did not want to pull into any idiot who happened to not look where he was going, as this guy did. Luckily, I am a teenager with common sense. No, I wasn't digging my elders. However, I do wish that you yourself wasn't so stereotypical with your loud music, because you never know when you may cause offence. I simply insulted ONE middle aged driver driver... Not the whole selection of middle aged males. I was insulting wreckless drivers as a whole, because they shouldn't be on the road... and NO I am NOT a geek, I just have common sense and don't want to kill myself.
