A woman on The Antiques Roadshow claimed that she saw an Edinburgh auction being advertised in Waterloo Station and she, on the spur of the moment, jumped on a train to the Scottish capital...... This is surely a load of cr-p - if she had gone to Kings Cross, okay, but not from Waterloo.
Don't think that the money she has made on the pieces really justified it, but that is neither here or there.
Surely the Beeb ought to be more wary of such 'claims'?

Anyone at Waterloo, wanting to make an impromptu journey to Edinburgh would need to get across London first, obviously heading to King's Cross because of the more frequent service. (Two Tube trains, changing at Leicester Square OR a walk across the bridge to Embankment and one Tube from there OR one Tube train to Euston and walk from there OR 59/68/168 bus and a short walk OR a taxi Or a 50 minute walk).
However, if I'd seen a poster on Waterloo Station and then suddenly decided to go to Edinburgh, I might have shortened the story a bit by simply saying "So I took the first train to Edinburgh". I wouldn't actually be lying; I'd just be omitting a bit of detail ;-)

//You take the train from Waterloo and change at Kings Cross.//
You'd have to change on the tube as well - either at Bank (for the Northern Line, City branch)), Leicester Square (for the Piccadilly Line) or Warren Street (for the Victoria Line). If you were really masochistic you could change at Embankment and take the Circle Line.
That aside, the articles valued on the Antiques Roadshow are not sold. They are simply valued for interest only.
