De-misting bathroom mirrors

Can anyone tell me the secret of keeping bathroom mirrors permanently de-misted. Many thanks.

Spread a thin layer over the dry mirror, and wipe lightly when it has completely dried.... Works for me, but it's not a forever, permanent fix. I don't think anything is, but this will last a few weeks at a time...

I have problems with opening the window for ventilation. Living in a bungalow my bathroom window is overlooked by three neighbouring houses. The bath and shower are under the widow so the blind has to be lowered and if the window is open the blind can be blown around a bit, and with winter approaching it can get a bit draughty around the trossachs!
Anyhow, thank you all - I will try Clanad's and Brenda's suggestions. Zacmaster, your idea I'm sure would work but I don't want to introduce anymore electric work into the bathroom.
