My grandfather was in the Royal Dublin Fusiliers. He was "fortunate" that he had half of his arm shot away and was invalided out. He later lost his eldest son in WW2. Sad times.
I don't believe all the gubbins about todays' young generation.
There are lots of fantastic youngsters out there but people only want to believe what they see and read in the media. What about your children and grandchildren? That's who we're talking about isn't it? It's only the bad stuff that gets publicised. One 15 year old girl I know has just raise £320 for Domestic Violence UK, something she started before Sarah Everard went missing, so that wasn't an initial factor. We do shake our heads lots of times at young people, but then look how they turn out. One youngster I know was the most timid child you could imagine, he really was. He is now 25 years old and a theatre nurse taking part in the most delicate procedures. You just don't know how youngsters will develop. I would suggest that in most cases, they end up surprising people with their acheivments, and should the need ever arise, the vast majority would be willing to serve their country.
