i am a named driver on my hubbys policy and i also have a fully comp policy on my own car so i am insured to drive any car. i have damaged his car and it needs to be repaired through the insurance (no one else involved, -only a gate). should i claim on my own insurance or his, or does it not matter ?

Before answering, you need to confirm that you have comprehensive insurance cover to drive any car and therefore full cover for ANY car that you drive. It sounds unlikely.
as you were driving his car i would think it would be his insurance you claim on, but then again im not sure if it would matter. personally, i would claim on his. ( unless hes already had claims !! )
of course bird legs, forgot about that. as if not fully comp then you only have 3rd party cover when driving someones elses car dont you ?
You need to study both policies.

If your husband has comprehensive and you are a named driver claim on his ins.

If you have fully comp you can drive any car "not belonging to you" but the cover will usually only be for third party so you cannot claim on your ins.

Again what are the details of each ins?
either way yours and your hubbies insurance people will be claiming off each other. Why not skip that and get a quote for it to be repaired without the insurers intervention. This may save money, time and claims history.

Very helpful - thanks everyone !
Whatever you do you are obliged to tell your insurance company when you next renew even if you have not claimed.
