Does anyone else still favour minidiscs?

I love minidiscs, they're my preferred recording/listening medium but realise that they are on the verge of becoming obsolete. I always used to stock up on blank ones at my local HMV but last weekend found none on display and was told the chain no longer stock them.

Yes, yes, yes, I know we're all going over to MP3s and ipods now. I've resisted it so far but fear I will have no choice. I find MDs very editable - great for me as I love doing compilations - and can bump up the recording levels on older tracks that have lower production levels so they match later ones, etc. Can all this be done with ipods and MP3 players too?

lol i bought some mini disks a few years back because they were on offer - typical of me that. I was planning on getting a mini disk player but as it ends up I didn't get one and got an Mp3 instead.

I still have the disks, as its a shame to throw them out - I will keep them untill you cant buy them anymore and then I will sell them to you at a profit lol!

Go to car boot sales- I just bough 10minidiscs (brand new in wrapping) FOR �1. You can buy machines there cheap as well - a boxed Sony one for a tenner (which I sold on ebay for a profit)

Did Sony block the use of minidiscs for data storage?
They'd have made a great floppy replacement.

Too late now though, USB flash drives are physically smaller, logically bigger and no doubt faster. It's a shame, I think Sony missed a real opportunity there.

No they didn't and there were minidisc drives available but they were expensive and slow when writting. Details at the following link...
