Was it the Graf Spee
which had to put into a Neutral port to try and get repaired , after being damaged by RN battleships .
Then broke out from the harbour and then deliberately sunk on the orders of the German commander ?
I thought the Amethyst was more appropriate, Baz, because it actually ran aground on the shores of the Yangtze and early efforts to free it failed. Mind you, it did come under heavy gunfire which, as far as we know, the Ever Given didn't!
You're right with the details of the Graf Spee bazile, it was off the coast of South America. And the Bismarck was sunk by British Forces while heading for home in the English Channel. Both made it to the Silver Screen however.
both sides had radar ( ha!) to watch traffic. and the Germans jammed the British just a leedol on Day 1 - and then a leedol bit more days later and then....
until there was white out on the british side which allowed the bismark to break out
Admiral Dudley Pound lost his job over that one .... Churchill used to fire his commanders like nobodys business...
they arent thinking of pushing the Duke out on a buring viking ship are they? - like at the end of Beau geste
