Can anyone jog my memory? A daily newspaper used to have a cartoon man (I think) hidden somewhere every day. I don't think there was a prize for finding it and it was usually hidden in an advert.
What was the newspaper and what was the character called?

Remember the pub "draws", with a card that you initialled, to raise funds for the darts/football/sewing teams? Some pubs used to use the cartoon. It was cut up into little pieces and whoever got the portion with the little boy and his dog was the winner. They had to stop cos the crafty punters were cutting that bit out of their papers and there started to be about 10 winners trying to claim the prize.

I remember those cards - you bought as many squares as you wanted for 50p or £1. My butcher uses something similar to raise money for a children's hospice, winner gets meat.
There was always someone who put a daft name or a naughty one to be announced ... like Mike Hunt. Which was then announced to ribald cheers. Then some clown would put the initials H.I.V. on a square. Then those days were gone.
