Diesel accelerates when stopping

I have a new ford focus diesel, but have always been used to driving petrol cars. Why when I come to a stop and depress the clutch does the vehicle seem to accelerate? I do not press the accelerator when this happens, but the car seems to gain a sharp increase in momentum and I need to be ready on the brakes. I have heard that alot of diesels do it, is this normal? Any Ideas?

This is not normal! Take it to the dealer for them to have a look. I've heard of a similar problem, I think it was on a BMW.
