Broken Confidentiality

Ergh I feel awful - and stressed. My employer made me aware of something work related and asked me to keep it to myself. I presumed INCORRECTLY that her trusted PA knew and mentioned this in conversation. She didn’t. My fault entirely. I’m quite concerned tbh. I won’t be fired I know that for sure but it makes me look very unreliable

Employer was in the room at the time.

I said “I presume she (pa) knows about xyz”?

And employer just went “no”!

Whereupon I tried to cover it talking about something related.... but I didn’t fo a good cover up!

I just presumed incorrectly that her pa knew! The pa usually knows everything!

We have all done or said something stupid at some time and it will soon be forgotten.
You will have it on YOUR mind for a time but unlikely that it will be on anyone else's mind.

Just beforehand I’d needed to fob off other staff member grilling as staff suspect change is afoot (thars what the secret is about) I think I was already rattled because I felt like I’d needed to fib to a colleague to say if didn’t know anything

I really wouldn't feel so bad although understand why you do. I've been a PA, including at director level, for several years now and one thing every PA knows is no-one, absolutely no-one, can keep work related gossip or secrets quiet - except perhaps a PA! She will have come across this many a time, she may have been curt because she didn't know and was indignant that she didn't. It will all blow over.

Here this very day, in X - ville, Young master A is drying out at home and I have just seen him making a drug deal. He was walking in flip flops and the dealer had a nice car. lesson there. So clearly he er isnt drying out. I have no intention of telling the mother.
