In about 7 or 8 billion years from now, (not that this will worry any of us now) the Sun will die, Earth and the rest of the Solar system will have died long before, the Sun will probably become a black hole, which will suck everything close into it,
At that time, there will be no trace whatsoever that we ever existed.
If humanity is still around, it will surely have found either another planet to live on (possibly Mars or much further afield), and a way to travel there and back in an instant, or have found a way to move the orbit of the Earth out of the way of the sun's growth so that it remains in the goldilocks zone.
My thoughts on this are that everything in the natural world lives and dies.
Asking what the purpose is assumes a plan which would necessarily require a planner but nature doesn’t require a planner. It exists and it evolves. It just does what nature does.
Based on the current exponential rate of technological advances I struggle to see where we will be of any use to the technology that will exist in another hundred or so years. I wouldn't worry myself too much about being consumed by the Sun.
A couple of thoughts.
Any talk of colonising Mars or other planets is missing the point that one day the solar system (Google it) and even the universe will cease to exist.
fiveleaves, I can safely say that he won't. I'm sure that you respect my opinion as much as I respect yours.. Mere assertion is a pointless exercise.
One thing that's sure ,its a waste of time and money building a rocket to try and reach alternative planets in the universe, because any rocket built and sent would be overtaken by better and faster rockets from the future

Asking what the purpose is assumes a plan which would necessarily require a planner but nature doesn’t require a planner. It exists and it evolves. It just does what nature does. ///nature what is it? where does it exist or where does it come ?from what is its purpose? what is it really purpose ?
You- me seem to take it just for granted because it seems to be there out of sight all the time but it does have a purpose it does have a built-in design for every living thing so where did that reason come from ?and why?
Nature - That which exists by virtue of what it is and does, such as, the universe, planets, animals and trees.
as opposed to
Man made - That which exist by virtue of human intervention, such as, schools, churches, religions and gods.
