Someone Cashed Out Our Check
Our insurance company send a check to wrong address and it was cashed out by someone else. The company refused to issue another check saying "There are no fund any more. We are not the one who cashed it out". They suggested me to call the bank they used for this check. The bank told me have the insurance company contact them. I called back the insurance company but they kept saying they cannot do anything with this check. What should we do?? I know they didn't take the money but they are the one who sent it to wrong address. They said that our address wasn't updated in their system. Oddly, we have been receiving other documents from them around the time. Anyways, none of them is our issue. We just need our money back. Whom we need to talk to? please advise.

I presume the check was made out in your name & not to cash so the person who stole it (even though it was sent to wrong address) must have impersonated you at the bank. You should inform the police pronto. You say the insurer had not updated your address so the check was sent to somewhere you once lived? Do you know who lives there now? Inform the police of that...

My bad, I’m not saying that I don’t want to upset our tenant. I don’t care thief’s feeling if they took our money. I am hesitant to go to police right away because if it is simple mistake then we can fix it through the rent. That’s why I’m waiting for my property manager’s response. I don’t have any contact information by the way. If I skip all that and contact police gets involved, they may get arrested and lost their job and loose our rent for a while until replacing the tenant.
I didn’t know there are some people can think this mess could be our fault. They are perfect human beings and living in the perfect world I guess. I’m jealous.
I appreciate people who share similar stories and cases. Thank you so much!

email the CEO - seriously. our experience is that the CEO just want all complaints dealt with soon and therefore the send it to someone lower down the staff hierarchy saying "get it sorted"
