We've got a W regd 2.5 Ford Cougar & have lost the remote locking key & only have one spare manual key left, so I can't re-code without going to great expense at the Ford dealers. I know that I can re-code the wireless transmitter, but my question is , can i remove the existing key chip & glue it to the switch barell so any re-cut key will operate the system?
Alternativly, does anyone know a cheap way round this problem?

It is possible, I did it recently with a Peugeot, rather than pay 300 for a new lock set when I broke the only key.

I ordred an unprogrmmed key from the key number, removed the chip from the broken key and attatched it to the barrel, works great !
You should b able to get your key recoded for about 55 if you go here:

www.remotekey.co.uk

You can just send the key to them and they will post it back within a few days. Worked for me when i had the same problem!
