Are There Peeps Who Work For Hmrc?

We have to have 35yrs NI contributions to get the full state pension which is calculated at £179. Yet my friend took early retirement and has 42 yrs contributions but has a calculation of £140 !

this is a third party inquiry and these are marked by inaccurate or later corrected info - my guess - he contracted out of serps as a result of this employment
but
HMRC is not involved in this
so HMRC peeps can own up and give the time honoured answer

I took a year out at age 24 to work selflesslly for charity and totally screwed my pension at 65 - that would be 41 y later - I knew what I had done at age 27
