KFC employed black actors in a recent advert and following three complaints has been cleared of perpetuating negative ethnic stereotypes.

Advertisers really are treading on eggshells. No pleasing some.

Just curious as I've never done it but do you have to tell ASA your ethnicity when you put in a complaint?
No mamya you don’t
Thank you Martin.
The actors employed didn’t have to do the advert if they felt they were being negatively stereotyped. Presumably they didn’t - end of.
No doubt it will have been 3 white middle class liberals complaining on behalf of black people, cos that's what they always do.
Surely it doesn't matter who exactly complained, the fact is that after ONLY three complaints, it was investigated - why ????
no idea why they thought it should be investigated but this is the modern world for you...
It says in my link, Shirley.
They felt it may be worth looking into, as said they do that after just one complaint sometimes.

They looked and felt it caused no problem.
Like you naomi, I can't remember the last time I saw a TV ad, so obviously can;t argue from a position of strength about the pros and cons of the ad itself.

As to 'What ethhic minorites want' - I imagine it's the same as the majority want - to be free of discrimination and sterotyping.

Sounds fair enough to me.
Well, BLM hardly evoke my sympathy when I see lots of highly paid black footballers taking the knee to emphasise the mythical inequality of it all.
Stupid people complaining about stupid things. I don't think we should assume that thus represents the attitude of all 'ethnic minorities'.
Never seen this advert. The one that is usually shown is the 'finger lickin' good' one where the lads in the taxi ask the driver to go through the KFC drive through. Never given it a seconds thought as to their ethnicity.
"ONLY three complaints, it was investigated - why ????"

What minimum number of complaints do you think is reasonable to justify an investigation?
and there was me under the misapprehension that all black people liked fried chicken
Not sure this was worthy of the ASA's time, let alone LBC's time to write it up (is three complaints a story?) ...

Spot on. From the ASA website:

//We only require one example to assess so if you do decide to raise concerns about an influencer not labelling content correctly, only one complaint is necessary. You can sign up to hear about further news from us on this issue via our newsletter page.//

So literally one person can complain and the ASA will investigate.

And then once it becomes a story, others can complain that a complaint has been lodged asking "Just what do ethnic minorities want?" assuming the complaint has been lodged by someone from a minority group.

You got that too Mamlynne!!
Oops...I mean Mamyalynne
Aye, a lot of mixed messages floating around.

There are folk who have complaining as their hobby.

Sad really.
