tical ,
n an obsolete Siamese silver coin, about equal to a rupee, replaced by the baht in 1928; a unit of weight formerly used in Siam (Thailand), approx 14 g (1/2oz).
[Port tical]
the correct answer, according to the question, IS baht. tical would have been the right answer 60-plus years ago but it certainly isn't now. this is a grossly misleading clue/answer and deserves a complaint.
The point is not whether or not people managed to fathom it out. The question implies the present unit of currency in Thailand (not Siam). I agree that this is just another example of sloppy work from M Mepham
The clue does imply now, not pre-1928. It is like having a clue which reads, "The basic unit of currency in England". The answer should be pound, but what if the answer in the crossword was groat.
