the little wire coming out of the phone is breaking up - tubing coming away from the wire and "thinning" the wire and I did tie a little tape around it but it is still coming out.

where where would I get this little wire thing and what would be the proper name for it. Thanks

The wire that connects the handset to the phone? The wire that plugs in to the mains?
Which wire?

Barry - just looked into two drawers in bedroom of loads of wires and plugs that I hoarded over the years, and I got an exact match.

for your answer it was the wire into the actual phone - I have the old fashioned phone with handset sitting on top. And with me pulling and hauling phone over to me over the years I have damaged/worn the wire. I'll be careful this time as this a good phone for the deaf.

There would be two wires going in to your actual phone - you still haven't said which one but never mind, you're sorted now.
