Virtue-Signalling (Branvhed Off From The 'Cancel Females' Thread.

Why is it that 'virtue-signalling' is used mainly against woke and do-gooders? Surely the enemies of the woke and do-gooders are simply signalling their own 'virtue' by using the term; or do the anti do-gooders not consider their own views as 'virtuous'?

To me, it's only virtue signalling if the person being woke is only doing it to look good rather than it being a cause they genuinely stand for. As a result, unless you can read that person's mind, you have no idea whether they are virtue signalling or not. Too often it seems to be used to discredit people's actions you don't agree with, regardless of their intent. That's pretty lazy use of the phrase when you can't be bothered to engage in genuine discussion.
